To commission an original portrait sets you apart. A fine oil portrait is rare. It represents artistic skill, taste, and discernment of character and becomes a partnership between client and artist. 

 

Sam Knecht uses only the best Belgian linen, highest quality paints and methods insuring your oil portrait will last centuries. By comparison the expected life of photographs is measured in decades.

This price schedule is for illustration purposes and lists conventional sizes and pose considerations. Your project may involve a unique scale or content not reflected in the schedule. Elements adding cost range from complicated background to intricately patterned jewelry, clothing, furniture, or other significant props. If you have special requirements Sam Knecht will discuss your needs and prepare a customized fee quote. He looks forward to working with you to fulfill your portrait wishes. These prices are for the unframed painting. Frame costs vary widely. Knecht is happy to assist in frame selection according to client taste, suitability to intended site, and budget. 

 

When a portrait is commissioned, Knecht will arrange sittings for sketches and photographs with the client. He enjoys such sessions in the home or work environment of his client since such backgrounds often become a part of the finished painting. To select best composition, pose, expression preliminary images are reviewed with the client before the actual painting is launched.  Start to finish may require as much as three months depending upon size and complexity of the project.
