Commissioning a Portrait Painting:

In this day and age where photography is used by everyone, consider how special and long-lasting is an oil portrait. The well-done portrait painting goes beyond the moment a mechanical camera captures an expression. The skilled portraitist aims at distilling the essence of his sitter’s features, moreover, the person’s essence. There are a thousand strategies and decisions that go into a portrait painting that involve the skill and judgment of the seasoned artist. Sam Knecht has been doing portraits and other types of commission work.

 

Currently Sam Knecht has a “future log” of about six months of portrait commissions. 2006 and 2007 were extremely full of portrait projects both commissioned and “inner assignments” like the paintings titled “Sarah” and Lindsey, newly featured in the gallery section.
